Gia Salerno, PT, DPT, NKT, RYT-200

 

Physical Therapist

Gia Salerno, PT, DPT, NKT, RYT-200 earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She earned her B.S. in Exercise Science with a minor in dance from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated magna cum laude and was a member of honors health science fraternity Phi Epsilon Kappa. At WCU she was also a member/choreographer for University Dance Company, with whom she traveled to Ladek-Zdroj, Poland, to perform and present choreographic works at Międzynarodowy Festiwal Tańca. In addition, she performed in and choreographed for several University Theatre productions, attended American College Dance Festival, and was the first recipient of the Barbara J. Lappano Dance Scholarship. Growing up, Gia studied dance for 15 years with Ballet Theatre of Scranton in her hometown of Scranton, PA. A Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance since 2014, Gia holds an RYT-200 certification. Following graduation from  MCPHS, she presented her capstone research paper at the 2018 APTA NEXT Conference in Orlando, FL.

Gia has been practicing outpatient orthopedic physical therapy with a concentration in sports medicine in NYC since 2018. She further enhanced her skill set of treating dancers and performers while working as a PT on the Broadway shows “The Wrong Man” and “Oklahoma”. Gia has a passion for treating dancers as well as athletes of all ages and abilities. Her goal as a physical therapist is to restore dysfunctional movement patterns, promote the importance of exercise and self care, and educate her patients every step of the way in order to foster independence and lifelong participation in the sports and activities that give their lives meaning, purpose, and happiness. 

Gia has completed continuing education courses in Graston Technique and NeuroKinetic Therapy to further her manual skills, as well as LSVT BIG training for treatment of Parkinson’s Disease movement disorders. Outside of her physical therapy practice, Gia enjoys participating in races as a member of New York Road Runners and taking regular dance classes at the Alvin Ailey Extension.
